FAFSA Network Kicks off FAFSA Season

Career coaches, school counselors, and district administrators from all across Central Alabama kicked off FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) season with a special Bold Goals FAFSA Action Network event on October 6th.

This FAFSA kickoff event was a chance to look at last year’s data, celebrate successes, and spread best practices to ensure even better results this school year. Last year we were able to push FAFSA completions above the 50% mark for our region!

The kickoff event was also a way to highlight important changes to the FAFSA process. The filing season began earlier this year (October 1st) and students must now use their parents/guardians’ tax filing information from the prior year.

The FAFSA Action Network partners with Alabama Possible and their Cash for College Campaign to assist students and families in Central Alabama with the FAFSA. Cash for College is driven by local partnerships across the state of Alabama, and the results are reported in real time through an interactive data dashboard available to the public.

Making sure students complete the FAFSA is important for ensuring access to post-secondary education and building a college-going culture. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 9 out of 10 students who complete a FAFSA attend college the following fall.
